Midwest accent
Great Lakes speech
A Midwest accent is a way of speaking English associated with the central United States—roughly the Great Lakes region through the Plains states.
It's often characterized as "flat" or neutral, sometimes taken as the baseline American accent in broadcasting.
Features include the cot-caught merger (making those words sound identical), elongated vowels, and in some areas, a distinctive /o/ sound.
She still has a Midwest accent even after years in New York.
