Midlothian
Scottish council area
Midlothian is a historic county in southeastern Scotland, centered on Edinburgh.
The name now applies to a council area south of the capital.
Several places in other countries—notably a suburb of Richmond, Virginia, and towns in Texas and Illinois—were named after the Scottish original, likely through Walter Scott's novel *The Heart of Midlothian*.
