Kodiak bear
Massive Alaskan predator
A Kodiak bear is a subspecies of brown bear found only on the Kodiak Archipelago in southwestern Alaska.
Along with polar bears, Kodiaks are the largest bears in the world, with males sometimes exceeding 1,500 pounds.
Their isolation on the islands for thousands of years has made them genetically distinct from mainland brown bears.
