Computer worm
Network-spreading digital parasite
A computer worm is malicious software that replicates itself and spreads across networks without requiring human action or a host program.
Unlike viruses, which attach to files and need users to execute them, worms propagate autonomously by exploiting security vulnerabilities: The worm infected thousands of systems within hours.
Notable examples include the Morris worm (1988) and WannaCry (2017).
