Buddhist chanting
Monastic prayer vocalization
Buddhist chanting is the rhythmic recitation of sacred texts, mantras, or phrases as a form of meditation and devotion.
Different traditions use different languages—Pali in Theravada Buddhism, Sanskrit or Tibetan in Vajrayana, Chinese or Japanese in East Asian schools.
The practice aims to focus the mind, generate merit, and invoke spiritual qualities: The monks began their morning Buddhist chanting at dawn.
