Brer Fox

Cunning folktale canine

Brer Fox is a character from African American folklore, popularized in Joel Chandler Harris's Uncle Remus stories of the late 19th century.

He is the cunning but perpetually outwitted adversary of Brer Rabbit. "Brer" represents a dialect pronunciation of "brother," a traditional honorific in the tales.

The character appears in Disney's controversial 1946 film *Song of the South*.
