Basil Fawlty

Basil Fawlty is the fictional proprietor of Fawlty Towers, the incompetent hotelier played by John Cleese in the British sitcom.

The name has become shorthand for a type of hospitality nightmare—snobbish, short-tempered, and catastrophically inept at customer service: The manager went full Basil Fawlty on the guests.
