BVD
Brief company initials
BVD is a brand of men's underwear that became so ubiquitous in the early twentieth century that the name turned generic.
In older American usage, BVDs means men's undershorts or union suits: He was standing there in his BVDs.
The usage is dated but still encountered, especially among older speakers.
