Avon lady

An Avon lady is a door-to-door saleswoman for Avon cosmetics, a company built on direct selling through independent representatives.

The term evokes mid-twentieth-century suburban America, when such visits were common: The Avon lady came by with the new catalog.

Now often used nostalgically or to describe any direct-sales representative.
