Yam fries are strips of yam or sweet potato cut into the shape of French fries, then baked or fried.
They appear on restaurant menus as a healthier or more interesting alternative to regular fries: I'll have the burger with yam fries instead.
The term often applies to orange-fleshed sweet potatoes rather than true yams.
