vote certification
Official ballot confirmation
Vote certification is the official process of confirming and validating election results.
After votes are counted and any recounts or legal challenges resolved, designated officials—typically a board or secretary of state—formally certify the results as accurate and final.
The certification makes election outcomes legally binding: The state completed vote certification before the federal deadline.
In U.S. presidential elections, certification at the state level precedes the Electoral College vote.
