vote buying
Purchasing political support
Vote buying is the practice of exchanging money, goods, or services for votes in an election.
A candidate or party pays voters directly to support them, or rewards them afterward for having done so.
The practice is illegal in most democracies but persists where enforcement is weak or poverty makes small payments attractive: Vote buying was rampant in the local elections.
