vanity sets

Dressing table ensembles

A vanity set is a matching collection of personal grooming items for a dressing table—typically including a hand mirror, hairbrush, comb, and sometimes containers for powder or perfume.

These sets were especially popular in the early twentieth century, often made of silver, tortoiseshell, or celluloid, and given as gifts for weddings or coming-of-age.

The term can also refer to the dressing table itself along with its matching stool or bench.
