unmade bed
Morning's tangled remnants
An unmade bed has its sheets and blankets left in disarray rather than smoothed and tucked.
The phrase often suggests laziness or informality: She worked from home surrounded by coffee cups and an unmade bed.
It can also evoke intimacy or recent sleep—the rumpled evidence that someone was just there.
