unexpectant

Caught off guard

Unexpectant means not anticipating or awaiting something—the opposite of expectant.

Someone unexpectant is caught off guard, having no reason to suppose something would happen: She was completely unexpectant when they announced her name as the winner.

The word is uncommon; most speakers would say "not expecting" instead.
