underworking

Not pulling weight

Underworking describes the act of working less than expected, required, or optimal.

Someone who is underworking may be putting in fewer hours than their job demands, exerting less effort than a task requires, or deliberately holding back productivity.

The term can apply to employees coasting through their duties, machines running below capacity, or anyone not pulling their weight: The manager suspected her team was underworking while she was away.
