temporary marriage
Fixed-term wedding
A temporary marriage is a union with a predetermined end date, practiced in some Islamic traditions (particularly Shia Islam, where it's called *mut'ah* or *sigheh*).
The contract specifies duration and terms, after which the marriage automatically dissolves without divorce proceedings.
Critics view it as legitimized prostitution; proponents see it as a practical accommodation for relationships that can't be permanent.
