take-ins

Swindles and hoaxes

Take-ins are alterations that make a garment smaller by sewing seams tighter or removing excess fabric: The tailor marked where the take-ins would be on the jacket.

The term also refers to people who have been deceived or swindled—those who were "taken in" by a scheme or con artist.
