The southern plains are the lower portion of the Great Plains region of North America, typically encompassing parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and eastern New Mexico and Colorado.
The area is characterized by flat grassland, semi-arid climate, and historically, bison herds and cattle ranching.
The Dust Bowl devastated the southern plains in the 1930s.
