show towel
Decorative bathroom linen
A show towel is a decorative towel displayed in a bathroom or kitchen but not intended for actual use.
Often embroidered, monogrammed, or otherwise ornamental, show towels signal that guests should use the plainer towels nearby: Don't dry your hands on that—it's a show towel.
The practice puzzles those who find unused towels pointless.
