respectively
Each to each
Respectively means in the order given, matching items in one list to items in another: The blue and red wires connect to terminals A and B, respectively.
It signals that parallel sequences correspond one-to-one.
Without it, readers might not know which item pairs with which.
The word is most useful when listing would be awkward: John and Mary are 40 and 38, respectively is cleaner than repeating names with ages.
