pseudointellectualism

Shallow intellectual posturing

Pseudointellectualism is the pretense of intellectual depth without the substance to back it up—name-dropping philosophers without understanding them, using jargon to obscure rather than clarify, or treating complexity as inherently superior to simplicity.

The charge often carries contempt: His essays are pure pseudointellectualism, all buzzwords and no insight.

Someone who engages in it is a pseudointellectual.
