private adoption
Non-agency child placement
Private adoption is an adoption arranged directly between birth parents and adoptive parents, typically through an attorney or adoption professional rather than through a public child welfare agency.
Unlike agency adoptions, private adoptions often involve newborns and allow birth parents to select the adoptive family: They found their daughter through a private adoption.
Also called independent adoption.
