phrenic

Concerning the diaphragm

Phrenic means relating to the diaphragm, the muscle separating the chest from the abdomen.

The phrenic nerve controls diaphragm movement for breathing.

In older medical and philosophical usage, phrenic could mean relating to the mind, from the ancient belief that the diaphragm was the seat of thought and emotion—a sense now obsolete except in compounds like schizophrenic.
