once-removed
One generation apart
Once-removed describes a family relationship separated by one generation.
Your first cousin once-removed is either your first cousin's child or your parent's first cousin—the "removed" indicates you and this relative belong to different generations.
My grandmother's sister's grandson is my first cousin once-removed.
The term extends to other cousin relationships: second cousins once-removed, third cousins once-removed, and so on, always marking that one-generation gap.
