on the up

Improving steadily now

On the up describes something improving or increasing.

A business on the up is growing; a person on the up is advancing in status or recovering from difficulty: After years of struggle, her career is finally on the up.

More common in British than American English, where *on the rise* or *on the upswing* are preferred.
