Nonrandomized describes a study or experiment where participants are not assigned to groups by chance.
In nonrandomized trials, subjects may be placed in treatment or control groups based on convenience, availability, or existing characteristics rather than random selection: The nonrandomized design made it harder to rule out confounding variables.
Compare with randomized, where chance assignment helps ensure groups are comparable.
