no slouch
Far from amateur
No slouch describes someone who is impressively competent or skilled at something.
The phrase works by negation—a slouch would be lazy or incompetent, so no slouch is decidedly neither: She's no slouch when it comes to negotiating.
Often followed by "at" or "when it comes to": He's no slouch at chess.
