national memorials
Country's honored sites
National memorials are sites officially designated to honor significant people, events, or concepts in a nation's history.
In the United States, Congress or the president establishes them: the Lincoln Memorial, the Oklahoma City National Memorial.
They differ from national monuments, which typically preserve natural or archaeological features.
National memorials focus on commemoration rather than conservation, though they may include historic structures or landscapes.
