moved up in the world

Climbed the ladder

To have moved up in the world is to have achieved greater wealth, status, or social position than before.

The phrase often carries a note of admiration or envy: She's really moved up in the world since we knew her in college.

It can also be used sarcastically when someone acts superior: Oh, we've moved up in the world, have we?
