mourning rings
Bereavement memorial bands
Mourning rings are rings worn to commemorate someone who has died, typically given to family members and close friends after a funeral.
Popular from the 17th through 19th centuries, they often incorporated the deceased's hair, name, or death date into the design: The will specified that mourning rings be distributed to his six closest friends.
The practice has largely fallen out of fashion.
