mournfulness
State of grieving
Mournfulness is the quality of expressing or feeling grief or sorrow.
It describes both the internal state and its outward manifestation—the mournfulness in someone's eyes, the mournfulness of a cello's lower register.
There was a mournfulness to the empty house that made her reluctant to enter.
