mercerised

Treated for sheen

Mercerised describes cotton thread or fabric that has been treated with caustic alkali to give it a silky lustre, greater strength, and improved dye absorption.

The process, named after its inventor John Mercer, produces a smoother, more lustrous finish than untreated cotton: mercerised cotton thread, a mercerised polo shirt.
