matron of honor
Bride's chief attendant
A matron of honor is a married woman serving as the bride's principal attendant at a wedding—the married equivalent of a maid of honor.
She helps plan events, manages the bridal party, and stands beside the bride during the ceremony: Her sister served as matron of honor.
Some brides have both, distinguishing by marital status.
