Matchpoints is a scoring method in duplicate bridge where each deal is scored by comparing results against other pairs who played the same cards.

You earn points for each pair you beat and half a point for each tie.

The system rewards relative performance rather than absolute scores—barely beating the other tables counts as much as crushing them.

We came in second on matchpoints but would have won on IMPs.
