man-marking
Guarding specific opponent
Man-marking is a defensive strategy in soccer and other team sports where each defender is assigned to guard a specific opponent rather than a zone of the field.
The defender follows their assigned player wherever they move: Their striker was dangerous, but tight man-marking neutralized him.
Compare to zonal marking, where defenders cover areas rather than individuals.
