loftier
Rising above others
Loftier is the comparative form of lofty—higher, more elevated, or more exalted.
Mountains can be loftier than hills, but the word more often describes abstract height: loftier ambitions, loftier ideals, loftier rhetoric.
The comparison sometimes carries a note of pretension: His goals grew loftier as his means grew smaller.
