left no trace
Gone without evidence
Left no trace means departed without leaving evidence of one's presence.
The phrase applies literally to careful travelers who pack out everything they bring: Good hikers left no trace of their campsite.
More often it describes disappearances—people, animals, or things that vanish completely: The thief left no trace.
It can also describe forgettable experiences or people who made no lasting impression: His decade at the company left no trace.
