lays up

Saves for later

Lays up means to store or set aside for future use: She lays up provisions for winter.

In basketball, a layup is a close-range shot where the player lays the ball up against the backboard.

To be laid up is to be confined by illness or injury: He's been laid up with the flu all week.

In nautical use, to lay up a boat is to take it out of service for storage or repair.
