A joy killer is someone or something that ruins pleasure or dampens enthusiasm.
The term describes a person who spoils others' fun through negativity, criticism, or unwelcome reality checks: Don't be such a joy killer—let them enjoy their moment.
Also applies to circumstances that deflate happiness: The rain was a real joy killer for the picnic.
