honorary awards
Titles without compensation
Honorary awards are recognitions given to honor achievement or contribution rather than victory in competition.
Unlike competitive awards, they acknowledge lifetime accomplishment, distinguished service, or exceptional merit: The academy presented an honorary award for her decades of humanitarian work.
Honorary awards appear across fields—entertainment, academia, philanthropy—typically bestowed by committees rather than won through contest.
