healthcare directives
Documented treatment preferences
Healthcare directives are legal documents specifying what medical treatment a person wants if they become unable to communicate their wishes.
They typically cover end-of-life decisions: whether to continue life support, accept resuscitation, or receive pain management.
A healthcare directive may also designate someone to make medical decisions on the person's behalf.
Also called advance directives or living wills.
