A grinch is a spoilsport or killjoy, especially someone who dampens holiday cheer or ruins others' fun: Don't be such a grinch about the office party.
The word derives from the Dr.
Seuss character but has become a common noun for any curmudgeonly person who resents festivity or generosity. (Capitalized Grinch is the original fictional character.)
