Fouled out describes a player who has been disqualified from a basketball game for accumulating too many personal fouls—five in college or high school, six in professional leagues.
The term extends to any situation where repeated violations force someone out: He fouled out of the tournament after his third technical.
By extension, it can mean being eliminated through accumulated mistakes.
