fizzlers
Things that flopped
Fizzlers are things that fizzle—start with promise but end in disappointing failure.
A firework that sputters out, a product launch that generates no excitement, a relationship that loses its spark: all fizzlers.
The word carries mild contempt: The much-hyped sequel turned out to be a fizzler.
Compare with duds, which never worked at all.
