fake apps
Fraudulent mobile programs
Fake apps are software applications designed to deceive users—either by impersonating legitimate apps to steal data and credentials, or by promising functionality they don't deliver.
They proliferate in app stores despite screening efforts: I downloaded what looked like my bank's app but it was a fake app that harvested my password.
The term also covers apps that pad their reviews with fake ratings or exist solely to serve ads.
