Effing up is a euphemistic way of saying fucking up—making a serious mistake or ruining something: I keep effing up at work, She effed up the whole project.
The substitution of effing for fucking allows the expression in contexts where the full profanity would be unwelcome, while retaining most of its emphatic force.
