dunning kruger effect
Unskilled and unaware
The Dunning-Kruger effect is a cognitive bias where people with limited competence in a field overestimate their own abilities, while experts tend to underestimate theirs.
The less you know, the less equipped you are to recognize your own ignorance: He failed the exam but was sure he'd aced it—classic Dunning-Kruger.
Named for the psychologists who documented it in 1999.
