drop lights
Ceiling-suspended illumination sources
Drop lights are hanging light fixtures suspended from a ceiling by a cord, chain, or rod, allowing the light source to hang lower than a flush-mounted fixture would.
The term covers both utilitarian workshop lights—often with a cage around the bulb and a hook for positioning—and decorative pendant lights over kitchen islands or dining tables.
