disinvite

Take back welcome

To disinvite someone is to withdraw an invitation already extended: After the scandal broke, they disinvited him from the conference.

The word carries awkwardness—it acknowledges that an invitation existed and is now being revoked, usually because circumstances or relationships have changed.

Less formal than "rescind an invitation" but describes the same uncomfortable social maneuver.
